USA Could Play Opener
The United States may be given the honor of opening the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.
Co-organizers of the event, the Rugby League International Federation and the Rugby Football League, reportedly are considering having the USA Tomahawks play co-hosts Wales in the first match of the World Cup.
While the groups and venues are known, the fixtures have yet to be finalized. It’s understood that discussions are taking place about pairing the USA and Wales for the opener.
The USA is in Group D with the Welsh and Cook Islands.
The American National Rugby League sees the potential of competing in the opening match as a great opportunity to showcase the Tomahawks on rugby league’s biggest stage.
