Tomahawks Winning Overseas

Tweed Heads’ USA Tomahawk eligible back-rower Cory Blair has played a leading role in getting his team into next week’s major semifinal in the QRL Intrust Super Cup.

In a replay of the 2011 Grand Final, Tweed outlasted reigning champions Wynnum-Manly 19-16 in Sunday’s qualifying semifinal.

Blair scored the first of his team’s three tries and had a hand in other key plays throughout the 80 minutes.

Tweed Heads will face off against minor premiers Redcliffe for a spot in the QRL championship game and interestingly there will be a USA connection on both sides of the ball.

Super sub Tui Samoa, named in the Tomahawks’ Train-On squad, has been in scintillating form for the Dolphins since coming back from an injury earlier in the season and will be looking to help his side take the short route to the Grand Final.

In other USA/QRL news, Tomahawk Michael Garvey scored a try for the Ipswich Jets as they fell 24-22 to the Wests Panthers in the FOGS Cup elimination final.

And further afield in the English Super League, Tomahawk center Ryan McGoldrick turned in a solid performance for his new team Hull FC as the black and whites belted the Bradford Bulls 70-6.

McGoldrick set up Hull’s first try of the game and he and his teammates never looked back. It was Bradford’s first game under the new ownership of businessman Omar Khan.
