Tomahawks Inspire League Growth

Source/Author: AMNRL | Posted: 11.03.2011

Inspired by the success of the USA Tomahawks during Rugby League World Cup qualification, coaches from the Chicago Stockyarders and Western Storm teamed up to hold a Midwest Rugby League clinic at Lewis University in Romeoville, IL, with the help of students James Galvin and Tim Hower.

Rugby union players from the Lewis University Flyers team were put through their paces with an introduction to Rugby League before a green v blue trial match as a taster ahead of the planned 2012 AMNRL Midwest conference.

More college based clinics are planned with the hope of channeling these players into the teams competing in next summer's regional competition.

Three teams are confirmed for the starting blocks in 2012 with the Stockyarders and Storm to be joined by the Iowa City Crash. Start-up teams are also a possibility in Michigan and Indiana although 2013 is a more likely target for those operations.
