Storm Game Off
As has been reported, the American National Rugby League has been in negotiations with Australian NRL club Melbourne Storm to bring the Storm to the United States for a game on October 20, 2012.
The AMNRL and Melbourne Storm regret to advise that they have simply run out of time to organize the funding and logistics of the trip.
Both groups have worked tirelessly, but the Storm had a deadline of Friday, August 17 for the negotiations to be completed given that they have to now concentrate on Finals Football.
“The AMNRL is grateful for the Melbourne Storm’s approach to help promote the game in the USA and appreciates and respects the Storm’s deadline,” said AMNRL football development manager Steve Johnson.
“Importantly, while we have run out of time for this event, the Melbourne Storm have affirmed their commitment to help the AMNRL grow the game in the USA and have committed to enter into further negotiation and planning in that regard.
“Even though this event was unable to take place, the AMNRL is honored that the Melbourne Storm has recognized its efforts by its approach to the AMNRL to help grow the game in the USA.”
