Shoulder Charge Ban May Go Global

ARL Commission officials have consulted their English and New Zealand counterparts with a view to forming a united front on the shoulder charge by the end of the year - the latest pointer to its likely eradication from the sport across the globe.

Rugby Football League director of standards, Blake Solly, confirmed on Friday that talks had taken place over the past fortnight and the English body had launched its own investigation into the merits of the shoulder charge following several incidents in Super League.
 
Revelations of the English investigation - the shoulder charge is already banned in New Zealand - is the latest sign that the controversial tackling technique is on borrowed time.
