South African Rugby League have expanded their theatre of operation with the formal establishment of the Eastern Cape Region of Port Elizbeth/Uitenhage and Despatch.

Taken on to oversee the development is Andre Gouws  who stems from the Uitenhage area and is the father of ex Eastern Eagles Provincial player (2005/7) Andre Gouws Junior .

The formation of clubs and a recruitment process at all levels as part of a strategic plan for the area is already underway.

Dave van Reenen, President of South African Rugby League said, “We welcome Andre Gouws on board and wish him a long and a happy association with SARL. We wish him the best of luck in his undertaking.”

The South Africa Rhinos are due to compete against the USA Tomahawks and Jamaica in the Rugby League World Cup Atlantic Zone qualifying series in October.

The winner of that series will clinch one of just two vacant berths still open for the 2013 RLWC in England.
