Rugby League Coming To Vegas

Source/Author: AMNRL | Posted: 08.28.2012

Plans are firming up for Rugby League’s Remembrance Cup tournament in Las Vegas in November.

The Remembrance Cup was first played in 2004 in Philadelphia between the Coogee Dolphins RLC from Sydney, Australia and the then American National Rugby League champion Glen Mills Bulls. Coogee holds the Cup having won the match 42-10.

The game also served as the curtain raiser for the Liberty Bell Cup between the USA Tomahawks and Australia.

The Remembrance Cup was originally played to remember six Dolphins players who were lost in the Bali terrorist bombings in 2002 in Indonesia and friends and family killed in the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States.

This year is the 10th anniversary of the Bali bombings and the AMNRL has invited the Coogee Dolphins to return to the USA to mark the occasion. The tournament will be played during the Veteran's Day weekend to remember all.

The tournament isn't only about marking the solemn occasion, however, it is also designed to help the AMNRL raise awareness of Rugby League, create interest in it and develop the game on the West Coast.

The format will feature 13-a-side teams playing 20-minute games consisting of two, 10-minute halves.

The Remembrance Cup is scheduled for Saturday, November 10, 2012.

Confirmed teams:
Coogee Dolphins (Australia)
British Columbia Bulldogs (Canada)
California Condors
Utah Avalanche
Las Vegas Warriors
