Interest continues to grow in the American National Rugby League with regional areas building a solid participation base.

Evidence of the increasing interest in the sport across the USA can be seen with the formation of two new Rugby League teams in the Midwest.

Through the tireless efforts of Mike Featherstone and a number of committed supporters, Rugby League is taking hold in the region with the establishment of Iowa City RL, headed up by expatriate Australian Brad Fuhrman, and the Western Storm Rugby League club developed by Englishman Kellen Smith.

Both teams plan to start practicing in the coming months and will add worthy regional opponents for AMNRL expansion team the Chicago Stockyarders in 2012.

More clubs are in the planning stages with the aim of developing a true AMNRL Midwest Conference to continue the national expansion of Rugby League in America. A Midwest Conference is a reality in the near future with AMNRL regional bodies throughout the USA working hard to build participation bases.

Teams have been established this year in the Southwest through George Tupou in Utah, Jack Breen in Hawaii, and a Southeast group headed by Rod Seddon in Atlanta.

The Western Storm, based in Elgin, IL, can be contacted at westernstormrl@yahoo.com while Iowa City Rugby League details are available from iowacityrugbyleague@gmail.com
