Elliott On McGoldrick

In the wake of news that USA Tomahawk Ryan McGoldrick is considering retiring from the game next year it’s possible he could still play a part in America’s 2013 Rugby League World Cup campaign.

The utility back recently joined English Super League club Hull FC on loan after a seven-year stint with the Castleford Tigers.

McGoldrick is weighing up all the options, one of them being retirement.

USA head coach Matt Elliott thinks that even if McGoldrick opts to retire from the Super League there's every chance that he'll still make a contribution to the Tomahawks’ World Cup campaign.

"I use the examples of Dave Myles and Matt Petersen who retired and came back to help us qualify," said Elliott.

"At this stage it's a consideration for Ryan. I know how committed he is to the program and what he's done in the past, so I'd be very surprised if he's not in a position to contribute regardless of what decision he makes."
