Bulls Spring Big Upset
Round 6 of the AMNRL continued Saturday in Philadelphia with the hometown Aston Bulls pulling off the upset of the year so far in downing the Bucks County Sharks in the Atlantic Conference.
The Aston Bulls were at full strength for the first time in a long while and with the likes of John Convery, Mike Garvey and Andrew Kneisly firing on all cylinders, combined with the home ground advantage resulted in the Bulls coming out of the blocks fast.
Two tries very early in the game and a third to Luis Tulio saw Aston take a commanding 16-0 lead. After half time the Sharks switched on and both teams traded blows turning the match into a high-scoring affair. The scoreboard reflecting a 24-10 lead in favor of the Bulls.
The Sharks couldn’t keep up in the end as the Bulls pulled out to a lead too great to chase down. The Bulls celebrated their second win of the season, as the final scoreboard read 42-20. Aston now shows 11 competition points in the standings after the bonus point win, while the Sharks also picked up a bonus point for scoring four tries.
Bulls head coach, Marcus Vassilakopoulos said; “We seemed to play a little better defensively we tightened things up, in the first half the Sharks didn’t score so that was definitely one area where we improved.”
The Bulls will come up against the competition’s juggernaut the New York Knights next weekend which is set to be a huge task.
“This game coming up against the Knights is going to be a tough one but we’ll see what we can do against the top club,” said Vassilakopoulos.
The scheduled game between the Connecticut Wildcats and Delaware Vipers was postponed and will be played July 30th at the annual War at the Shore Weekend in Sea Isle City, New Jersey.
