BC Handles Utah
The first ever North American cross-border rugby league club challenge has seen the British Columbia Bulldogs handle the Utah Avalanche 48-12.
The game, played in Canada, pitted American National Rugby League expansion team Utah against the Bulldogs, also a first year team from BC.
The Avalanche made a poor start to the game and quickly found themselves trailing. The visitors made too many mistakes to keep in touch and went to the halftime break on the wrong end of a 26-0 scoreline.
“We played a lot better in the second half,” said Avalanche boss George Tupou. “The boys didn't stop trying and kept going to the end and we have learned a lot from playing a good quality real rugby team.”
Utah made numerous line breaks and had chances to finish, but handling errors at crucial times proved costly.
“As always, captain Aaron Thompson led from the front and Brian Jensen, Chance Williams, Kali Tavake, Josh Latu all had great games,” continued Tupou.
“Each game we play we improve and all the guys agreed that we needed to play a real rugby league team to set the standard that we need to be at.”
